The ribbons were cut on the first buildings in the “Innovative Urban Village” complex in East New York.

The construction of more than 380 affordable units has been completed as part of the first phase of the project. The living community also includes the campus of "The Christian Cultural Center" and a grocery store.

It’s located on the corner of Flatlands Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue, under the new address at 30 Inspiration Lane.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani says it's part of a goal to bring more housing options to New Yorkers.

"We can sustain that vision of a New York where people do not just have to make something of themselves and leave their neighborhood as a result of it," Mamdani said. "But a New York where they could make something of themselves and stay in the same neighborhood that made them.

"East New York deserves the best and this project brings the best to East New York," said Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, who represents the area.

The developers say more than 400 units and a 24/7 daycare are expected to open in the spring. Units for seniors and a campus quad are expected by next winter.

The development project is expected to be constructed over the next 10 years.

New Yorkers interested in applying for units can find information HERE.
