Protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement continue across New York City, days after an ICE agent shot a man who was sitting in his car with his 5-year-old son in the back seat.
Authorities say 28-year-old Oscar Belgal was shot in the neck Thursday in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx.
The Department of Homeland Security says agents were trying to arrest Belgal when he attempted to flee. The agency says he is a Dominican national with a criminal history.
Since the shooting, protesters have gathered across New York City, with demonstrators calling for ICE to leave the city.
"They need to get out of here. When they opening fire ... shooting at people's cars and stuff ... with babies in it," one demonstrator said.
On Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Gov. Kathy Hochul had agreed to help DHS with more than 100 people the federal government says are in the country illegally, as long as the state is given notice.
Hochul disputed that account, saying no agreement was made.
Meanwhile, sources say Belgal is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after a judge temporarily blocked his deportation.
