Angel Carrasco, 31, was arrested late Wednesday night in the Bronx, he’s alleged to have pushed a young mother to her death as she held on to her baby, according to police.
The arrest comes after police believe Carrasco shoved 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez and her 8-month-old baby from the balcony of their 15th floor apartment early Tuesday morning.
Investigators say they arrived at 2550 Olinville Avenue at around 3:38 a.m. and found the mother and baby on the ground, with injuries sustained from a high-level fall.
Ramirez died from her injuries following the fall. Her baby girl survived and remains in critical but stable condition, according to police.
Sources tell News 12 Carrasco is the infant's father.
Carrasco’s arrest on Wednesday, comes after a growing vigil outside of the building with candles and flowers surrounding Ramirez’s picture.
Many who attended Wednesday’s vigil described Ramirez as a loving mother and a victim of domestic violence. Some mourners said they never met her personally but felt compelled to pay their respects.
One of Ramirez’s high school friends, Dominique Rosado, said the tragedy has been devastating. “I was crying for hours and hours because you just want to reach out and grab them, but they’re not here no more.”
Carrasco remains in custody and faces charges for murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, and assault.
