Blown fuses and a power line issue knocked out power to nearly 300 JCP&L customers and disrupted traffic at a busy Union Beach intersection before crews completed repairs Monday morning.

The outage affected customers in Monmouth County overnight and caused the traffic light at Route 36 and Union Avenue to lose power. A nearby Burger King was also without electricity.

The loss of the signal led police to block east-west traffic on Union Avenue, causing minor delays during the morning commute.

JCP&L spokesman Chris Hoenig said the outage was caused by blown fuses and a power line issue. Crews completed repairs around 10 a.m., restoring power to the intersection’s traffic light and other affected customers.

Traffic at Route 36 and Union Avenue has since returned to normal.
