A 12-year-old girl riding her bicycle is recovering this morning after an alleged drunk driver struck her in Bayport yesterday evening.

Suffolk County police responded to the intersection of Montauk Highway and First Avenue around 6 p.m.

The young girl was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said a Nassau County police officer detained the driver until Suffolk County Police Fifth Precinct officers arrived on the scene.

This morning, Suffolk County police identified the man behind the wheel of the 2018 Honda as Holtsville resident William Schultz, 67. Officers charged him with driving while intoxicated after arresting him last night.

Schultz is scheduled to be arraigned this morning.
