Death of woman who became unconscious after Bronx wellness center IV treatment ruled homicide

The death of a 27-year-old woman who became unconscious after receiving an IV treatment at a Bronx wellness center in July has now been ruled a homicide, according to the NYPD.
Police confirmed on Monday that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Elizabeth Baron’s death was a homicide as part of the ongoing investigation.
Baron died on July 19 after receiving treatment at Bereshit Lifestyle Center on Riverdale Avenue.
Prosecutors say Luis Rojas Cabrera, 55, allegedly administered an NAD+ IV infusion to Baron, and that he was not legally authorized to administer the treatment.
Investigators say Baron became unconscious during the treatment and was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Rojas Cabrera was arrested following Baron’s death.
Cabrera told investigators he was not licensed to practice medicine in New York but said he was a doctor in the Dominican Republic and held a physician assistant license in Puerto Rico.
He was initially charged with reckless endangerment and unauthorized practice of a profession.
Prosecutors later charged him with second-degree manslaughter.
