As the Friday morning rush was getting under way Friday morning, a man was shot and killed as he sat inside of his pickup truck at Wawa.

Police responded to the Wawa at Route 37 and Garfield Avenue after the shooting was reported just before 7:30 a.m.

Investigators revealed that they are still searching for the suspect. They say he is a male who sped off in a dark- colored sedan.

It's not yet clear if the shooter fired his weapon while on foot or from inside his own car.

The Wawa was immediately shut down as police focused their investigation on the Ford pickup truck, where the victim was shot.

The truck stayed parked between the front door and the parking lot entrance for three hours until it was towed away on a flatbed.

Police may get some help from the three police surveillance cameras posted on a stand in the parking lot if the cameras recorded the make, model and license plate of that car.

It’s not clear what motivated the shooting, but some of the regular Wawa customers say they wonder if it was sparked by a road rage incident that started on busy Route 37 and filtered into the lot.

“Sounds like somebody followed somebody in. I can’t imagined getting pissed off going to work at 7- 7:30 a.m.," said John Kaelin, of Toms River.

The victim has not yet been identified.
