Some unruly behavior by others up to no good has been hiding in the shadows, according to Civitano.

For two years, Joe Civitano has been left in the dark -- literally. The streetlamp outside his Westchester Square home on Tratman Avenue has been left broken. Some unruly behavior by others up to no good has been hiding in the shadows, according to Civitano.

The light outside his home was the only non-working streetlight on the block since December 2024.

"It's pitch black," Civitano said. "The only light I have is from my porch light."

He's called 311 a number of times. A contractor came to replace the pole in May, but the light was never turned on.

"They told me to call Con Ed," Civitano said.

But the utility company never came to brighten his day, according to Civitano. Then he called News 12.

Three days after the initial report, Con Edison told News 12 it would send a crew to assess the situation.

"Con Edison has been in touch with NYC DOT, which recently finished replacing the foundation to the streetlight," a spokesperson said.

That same day, Civitano spotted a crew digging into the street to turn the light on.

"They've been here since 8 a.m.," Civitano said with a smile. "They'll be wrapping up soon. Hopefully we'll have some light tonight."

That night, for the first time in two years, Civitano saw it all thanks to once again having a working light.
