Firefighters responded to two separate house fires just blocks apart in the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx on the Fourth of July, forcing crews to battle two active fires at the same time.
The first fire was reported just after 9:25 p.m. at a home on Hollywood Avenue, where flames could be seen ripping through the roof. A neighbor says the fire spread to the home next door, leaving behind visible damage.
Just 45 minutes later, firefighters were called to a second house fire on Kearney Avenue. Video from the scene shows flames shooting from the front porch as crews worked to knock down the second-alarm fire.
Neighbors shared more video of the aftermath and say the back-to-back fires left the block on edge during what was supposed to be a night of Fourth of July celebrations.
FDNY says one person was taken to the hospital following the Kearney Avenue fire. The Hollywood Avenue fire was brought under control just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, while the Kearney Avenue fire was under control before 11:40 p.m. The cause of both fires remains under investigation.
