Pedestrian struck, seriously hurt in Riverhead crash

Responding units found the male victim lying in the roadway near the BJ's Gas Station with a head wound.

A pedestrian was seriously hurt in a crash in Suffolk County late Wednesday night.

The Riverhead Police Department received reports of the collision around 10 p.m. on County Road 58, east of Ostrander Avenue, in Riverhead.

Responding units found the male victim lying in the roadway near the BJ's Gas Station with a head wound.

An investigation revealed that the unidentified pedestrian had been struck by a 2021 Ford Ranger when trying to cross County Road 58, according to police.

He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital via Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance for treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries.

Riverhead police tell News 12 the 70-year-old driver stayed at the scene, and no charges have been filed at this time.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call police at 631-727-4500.
