The Amazin’ Mets may be having a tough season on the field, but they’ve officially added a rookie everyone can rally behind.

America’s VetDogs and the Amazin’ Mets Foundation have partnered to co-raise a future service dog named “Howie,” honoring longtime Mets broadcaster Howie Rose.

The 11-week-old yellow Labrador will train over the next 14 to 18 months alongside Mets staff, players and fans, with appearances planned at Citi Field. The foundation, led by Alex Cohen, has contributed more than $200,000 to America’s VetDogs.

Howie’s name was chosen by Mets employees as a tribute to Rose, who will retire after the 2026 season.

Fans can meet the puppy on July 8 at Citi Field, when America’s VetDogs will also be featured as the game’s 50/50 raffle beneficiary.
