Three masked thieves used a stolen car and sledgehammers to pull off a violent daytime robbery at a Newark jewelry store on Wednesday afternoon.

Newark Public Safety Director reported that officers responded to the scene on Ferry Street near Van Buren Street around 1:03 p.m. following reports of a robbery in progress. According to investigators, three men wearing ski masks pulled up to the business in a stolen vehicle. The suspects exited the car and used sledgehammers to shatter the store’s front door and windows to gain entry.

Once inside, the trio snatched an undisclosed amount of jewelry before fleeing the scene in the same stolen vehicle. Despite the violent nature of the entry, officials confirmed that no store employees were injured during the heist.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Newark Police Department. As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made and a description of the stolen getaway vehicle has not yet been released.
