A large sinkhole that opened up on a busy street in Newark is causing traffic impacts near a county park.
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda says the sinkhole was reported just before 9 a.m. Friday.
Police say officers responded to the area of Freeman Street and Raymond Boulevard, which is across from the parking lot of Newark Riverfront Park.
Police and road crews quickly began diverting traffic away from the lane where the sinkhole was observed. No damage to vehicles or injuries has been reported.
Police have not said how long the repairs will take or if the work will impact the evening commute.
This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
