A police investigation is underway near Bregano Park in Yonkers.
Several neighbors say they heard a loud “boom” Monday night.
"It was just a loud boom," said Yonkers resident Joylen Thomas.
Police say officers received a call Monday night for fireworks in the area just after 8 p.m.
Officers responded to the scene but did not see anyone in the park. Officials say that police officers found a damaged portable toilet on Tuesday morning.
Several officers were seen around the park on Brandon Road.
As a precaution, Yonkers police requested the assistance of the Westchester County Police Bomb Squad and federal partners to assist with processing the scene and handling the materials, according to an official with the Yonkers Police Department.
Police believe it was a firework that went off. An investigation remains underway.
No injuries have been reported, and police say there is no threat to the public.Police are also looking into reports of similar sounds in the area in the recent past."I didn't even bother looking because it's been going on," said a nearby resident. Officials say police will be stepping up patrols.
