Construction is underway at Nyack’s Memorial Park, where the shoreline is getting a new look.

The project focuses on the stretch between the pedestrian bridge and the viewing platform, an area now fenced off while work happens. The rest of the park remains open to visitors.

Mayor Joe Rand tells News 12 he is looking forward to the improvements, especially the new seating planned for the waterfront.

"I'm just really excited to have like really nice seating where you can sit, relax, look out on the water. Right now, we've got a couple very hard benches. We're going to try and do better," he said.

A rendering released by the design architect, Weston & Sampson, shows new landscaping and updated seating areas. News 12 is told there will also be improved lighting along the shoreline pathway.

The total cost of the project is about $551,000. Of that amount, $412,276 is coming from the New York State Department of State, while $139,092 will be funded by the Village of Nyack.

Village officials expect the work to be completed in three months, which is before the July 3 fireworks celebration they host every year.

Visitors tell News 12 they are excited to see the changes.

“Well, I think it will be beautiful,” said Marie, who was visiting from New Jersey.

Melanie, a Nyack resident, shared a similar sentiment.

“I'm excited to see it, once it's done," she says.

This latest phase of work follows earlier improvements made to the park’s lawn and playground in 2024.
