An unexpected helicopter landing sparked surprise among neighbors near Stamford High School after the pilot reported engine trouble and brought the aircraft down on the football field.

The FAA says the helicopter had to land around 6:50 p.m., Tuesday. Police say the two people on board were not injured.

The event created plenty of excitement in the neighborhood.

"I was sitting in my favorite chair watching TV and reading when I heard it first," said Katherine Lampros of Stamford.

The Eurocopter AS350 made an emergency landing at Boyle Stadium.

"He went over the house, missed the antenna on the roof, missed the maple tree in the back, the power line in the back, and he set it down in the middle of the field," Lampros said.

Lampros and her sister have lived there since the 1950s. She says the pilot did an amazing job landing the helicopter considering there were people at the field.

"There were people running, there were people walking, and doing whatever they were doing," she said.

Wednesday morning, a crew was seen working on the helicopter. FlightRadar24 shows it came from Long Island and may have been headed to Westchester. It is registered to Wings Air Helicopters in West Harrison, New York.

No one was hurt. Lampros says this could have been much worse.

"He just about dropped in for dinner," she said.

The FAA is investigating. The chopper should be back in flight once repairs are made. News 12 reached out to Stamford Public Schools but has not heard back.
