Elected officials and law enforcement agencies in the Hudson Valley are urging vigilance in the aftermath of the United States-Israeli military action against Iran.

Local law enforcement officials say their focus is on preventing any potential incidents at home.

Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco says his department has heightened patrols and is asking residents to remain alert.

“We never know when something like this happens, when if something might happen anywhere in Rockland County or for that matter in any county. We ask everybody to stay vigilant, see something, say something. That campaign still stands,” Falco said.

Mount Vernon police also posted on social media urging residents to be watchful.

Elected officials in the Hudson Valley also reacted to happenings in Iran.

Republican Rep. Mike Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, defended the strikes.

“Iran is the greatest state sponsor of terrorism for 47 years. This regime has operated in a manner that is destructive not only to the United States, but to our allies around the globe,” Lawler said.

Democratic Rep. George Latimer, who represents the 16th Congressional District, sharply criticized the military action.

“Domestically as well as internationally this president believes that these military assets can be used as a bully pulpit to go enforce his well and that is not what the constitution stands up for,” Latimer said.

Democratic Rep. Pat Ryan also posted criticism on social media, saying the president has not clearly explained the goals of the military operation.
