State Democrats have proposed a bill to eliminate sales tax.

Officials say Senate Bill One would stop tax on clothing under $100 and permanently on school supplies.

"The one thing people tell us every day is that things are too expensive for them, to be able to support themselves, support their family; clothing, for example, so eliminating the tax on that clothing -- especially clothing that's under a hundred dollars -- will make it easier for people to be able to get what they need, to be able to get clothes for their kids, that they run through, for example, they're getting something that's $25 , and now that additional tax that's on it can at least be eliminated," said State Senator Sujata Gadkar (D - Wilcox).

State Republicans have introduced a competing tax relief plan.

The plan would offer permanent savings and eliminate car tax, according to officials.
