Officials from the SPCA in Briarcliff Manor shared how they were able to saved more than 40 cats from a home in Greenburgh.

Saturday is Valentine's Day and officials from Westchester's SPCA want to spread some love to some deserving cats and kittens. According to donor relations expert Kara Berardi, 44 of them were recently rescued from a hoarding house in Greenburgh.

"We were there at least three to five times a week giving the cats food, water and trying to humanely trap them to bring them here over to the rescue center. It took a good couple of months," Berardi said.

Officials couldn't reveal exactly where the home was at. However, animal care specialist Andrew Wolf visited the location and said he was shocked by the conditions.

"It was pretty bad. There was a very strong smell, very cluttered, not the best environment for any living thing to be in," Wolf said.

Berardi said many of the cats and kittens were sick when they were rescued.

However, now that they've gotten good care, many of them have already been adopted.

Twelve of them are still waiting for their forever homes.

"They've survived so much. They're really ready for a new chapter," Berardi said.

Wolf said volunteers are working to socialize the remaining cats and kittens.

"They made a lot of progress since they came into the shelter. They started off kind of shy, which is understandable," Wolf said.
