'Girls run the show.' Stamford HS hosting first-ever all-girls wrestling dual meet in FCIAC history

Stamford High school is rewriting history, thanks to a group of student athletes breaking barriers.
On Saturday, the school's girls wrestling team will host Trumbull in what school officials are calling the first-ever all girls wrestling dual meet in the 65-year history of the FCIAC.
"Tomorrow, we're making history," senior captain Taliya Greene said with a smile.
Coaches say the sport has skyrocketed in popularity across the state, and the black knights are a prime example.
"It makes us feel fantastic," head coach Jaime Camacho says. "We've been building to this point for the past seven years."
Senior captain Princesse Stessy Hyppolite says there were only four girls on the team when she started a few years ago, and now there's 14.
"I'm just very proud and excited for everyone," Hyppolite says. " I know we're going to do our best tomorrow."
Over the past five years, Stamford high school has had female wrestlers win five individual state championships.
Athletic director Chris Passamano is hoping all-girls wrestling dual meets become a common occurrence.
"The girls run the show in a lot of ways around here," Passamano says. "For the sport in general, it's just a great thing."
