In his year-end review for Kane In Your Corner, Walt Kane says suspicious texts and fake job offers were among the biggest scams of 2025. These scams targeted thousands of consumers throughout the year.

The Better Business Bureau says online shopping scams were the most common in 2025. Victims often paid for items they never received or got products far different from what was advertised.

Phishing scams ranked second. Text messages claimed to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles or E-Z Pass, threatening legal action over unpaid tolls. Those links were designed to steal credit card or personal information, according to the BBB.

Employment scams came in third. One example was a work-from-home offer promising about $3,000 a month for part-time work. The BBB says salaries that seem too good to be true should raise red flags.
