A devastating fire tore through a single-family home in Yorktown Heights on Monday, destroying most of the structure and leaving a local family displaced just weeks before the holidays.

Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman says the response required multiple departments, with mutual aid from Ossining, Mount Kisco, Buchanan and Croton Falls helping firefighters bring the blaze under control. No one was home at the time.
Amid the devastation, there was one bright moment — the family’s cat, initially unaccounted for, was rescued and taken to a local veterinarian for treatment.
The Red Cross confirms that three residents are now receiving emergency relocation and support services.
Lachterman called the fire “tragic,” especially since it happened between major holidays and said the community is rallying around the family as they face a difficult season of recovery.
