Warehouse mega project proposed for Blooming Grove sparks local backlash

It’s not yet clear what companies or businesses would occupy the warehouses if they are approved and built.

A massive warehouse development featuring five large distribution centers and a four-story office building is under review in the Town of Blooming Grove, and residents are pushing back hard.

The project would span more than 350 acres between Route 94, Round Hill Road and Oxford Road, and is being proposed by BGRE Holdings LLC, a real estate firm based in Edison, New Jersey. BGRE is tied to large-scale land acquisitions in the Hudson Valley region.

Longtime resident and member of the advocacy group Preserve Blooming Grove Bonnie Rum attended a packed planning-board meeting last month and voiced her frustrations.

“The traffic would be ridiculous,” Rum said. “There’s no way you can sustain five warehouses out here. These roads would all have to be redone.” She added that she couldn’t recall a single person who was for the project.

It’s not yet clear what companies or businesses would occupy the warehouses if they are approved and built.

Reaction online mirrored the in-person tension. A post about the proposal on News 12’s Facebook page drew dozens of comments within hours, with many calling the project “ridiculous” and saying they were “glad {they} just moved.”

The Town of Blooming Grove says the project is in the early stages of the review process and will require multiple studies before any decisions are made. The planning board is scheduled to revisit the proposal on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

News 12 reached out to the attorney representing the developer for comment.
