The Mahopac community is coming together to support a 4-year-old girl that’s fighting for her life after a rare tumor diagnosis.
Isabella "Izzy" Cashion was diagnosed with a rare tumor in August.
She has a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Dlioma (DIPG), which is a type of brain tumor that starts in the part of the brain stem called the pons.
The pons controls many vital functions such as breathing, heart rate and blood pressure.
This type of tumor affects 300 children per year in the U.S.
"It's unimaginable to have to go through something like this," says director of Kids Kottage Preschool Lisa Cavoto, where Izzy goes to school. "Izzy still comes to school every day after her radiation treatments and we are so grateful that she's still able to come to school."
"My daughter goes to school with Izzy so it hits home that this whole thing has happened so we're here to support her and support her family," says Mahopac resident Allison Amato.
The Mahopac Fire House was packed with people for a fundraiser to support Izzy and her family.
Silent auctions and raffles are just a few of the ways the community is trying to help.
"Anything that we can do to help them with medical bills, groceries or laundry or anything to make their lives a little bit easier," says Amato.
"This community has come out so strong," says Cavoto.
