Rockland County confirms first measles case since 2019
Measles symptoms may include a fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis (red, watery eyes) or runny nose.

A Rockland County resident was diagnosed with a case of measles, the county’s first case so far this year.
A release from county officials said that the person was “returning home from traveling a week prior, where a potential exposure had occurred.”
The person went to a health care facility on Aug. 20 and reported a rash on Friday, Aug. 22 – which was later confirmed to be measles.
Officials say it’s the first reported case since 2019 and that the person’s known contacts are being contacted and evaluated.
“The single best way to prevent measles is to be vaccinated. We strongly encourage residents to protect themselves, their families, and all residents of our county by making sure you and your family are up to date on your MMR vaccinations,” said Dr. Mary Leahy, Rockland County commissioner of health, in a prepared statement.
Measles symptoms may include a fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis (red, watery eyes) or runny nose. Symptoms usually appear 10-12 days after exposure but may appear as early as seven days and as late as 21 days after exposure.
