Adult with autism found dead in van at residence for disabled adults

New York State police and other state agencies are trying to determine the sequence of events that led to an adult with autism dying in a van Monday afternoon.
The director of the nonprofit New Horizons Resources told News 12 his staff expresses its sympathies to the family of the man who died in one of NHR's transport vans.
State police were dispatched to NHR's residence for people with developmental disabilities on Cream Street at about 2 p.m. Monday.
Troopers arrived to find the 26-year-old man dead in the van in the parking lot.
State police said in a press release Tuesday that it and the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office are "actively investigating the circumstances" and the cause of death.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no one had been charged, and NHR has not said whether any staff member has been disciplined or fired.
The man's family said they learned the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs is looking into the case, too.
Police have not released the deceased man's name, and his family asked News 12 to delay publishing his name.
Relatives said they were told by police that an autopsy could be performed in the coming days.
