The Rye Free Reading Room, located in Rye, debuted a new art exhibit on Wednesday entitled "The Wisdom Gallery," featuring photographed portraits of residents of The Osborn Senior Living on display.

The exhibit features a portrait for each resident, as well as a quote or two from the person.

The portraits take an in-depth look at the individual and how their careers and hobbies shaped them.

Some featured portraits included Robert November, a former New York Times executive, Vishnu William Wood, a successful and internationally known musician, jazz bassist and music educator, a 91-year-old currently practicing psychology, a Marine veteran and more.

"I played with some of the greats in New York. I played with the great pianist from Brooklyn, Mr. Randy Weston. We toured 14 countries in West Africa, Middle East and North Africa, and then we toured the countries of Morocco and Tunisia," said Mr. Wood. "Most of all, we should strengthen ourselves, so that we can be inspirational and lift other people up. I think that's really important that we do that as human beings."

Another resident who was photographed was 85-year-old Mary Ellen Foster McEvily, who worked as an art teacher to outpatients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

She later went on to volunteer at Bellevue Hospital in hospice work following her husband's passing.

Now, McEvily is a grandmother to 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

"I have a firm belief in giving back. If you have a gift, I think you should do something with it," she said.

The exhibit will be open throughout the month of May in honor of Older American Month.
