Rep. George Latimer, County Executive Ken Jenkins and other local officials gathered in White Plains Saturday morning to protest the closure of the Social Security Administration building at 75 South Broadway.

It is the only SSA building in Westchester County that allows for in person hearings.

"We're rallying against an insanity. Not a logical effort to try and improve government, but an effort to tear down government without any idea of what comes in its place," said Rep. Latimer.

According to Westchester County officials, there has been bipartisan attempts to save the office in White Plains by moving it to a different location.

"Westchester County offered, with Congressman Latimer and Congressman Lawler, a chance for the federal government to work with us and rent space in one of the county office buildings so they did not have to lose their presence here in Westchester County," said County Executive Ken Jenkins.

The attempt has been unsuccessful thus far.

The closure comes on the coattails of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which has proposedclosing other offices, cutting jobs and implementing new rules for those who collect Social Security.

It has also promised to close 50 Social Security offices...including the South Broadway location.

"We're going to continue to fight every way we can...keep faith. It is darkest before the dawn, but we are going to continue to stand up and fight for all of our citizens," said County Executive Ken Jenkins.

News 12 contacted a representative with the New York State Social Security Administration but have not heard back.
