A vehicle struck a school bus in New Rochelle Tuesday afternoon before fleeing the scene, police say.

The New Rochelle Fire Department responded to the corner of Eastchester Road and Webster Avenue at around 2:30 p.m.

New Rochelle Fire Commissioner Andrew Sandor says they found the bus had gasoline leaking out of its tank that had been "compromised." A hazmat truck also responded to the scene.

Sandor says some of the gasoline leaked onto the sidewalk, but did not get into any drain.

Two children were on the school bus but were not injured. The driver of the bus was being checked by EMS.

Police say they found the car involved in the hit-and-run blocks away from where the crash occurred.

Police are still searching for a suspect.
