It was a packed house at a Yonkers Black History Month event Thursday night.

The City Council president’s office honored several local unions and African American community members that are part of those unions.

The event also showcased talent from local kids at the Roosevelt High School Glee Club.

City Council President Lakisha Collins-Bellamy says it means so much to honor people in the community.

The honorees include: Local 628 (International Association of Firefighters), Uniformed Fire Officers Association, Local 456 (International Brotherhood of Teamsters), Local 704 (Service Employees International Union), Local 1897 (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees), PBA (Police Benevolent Association), CLSA (Captains, Lieutenants, and Sergeants Benevolent Association), CSEA (Classified School Employees Association), YCA (Yonkers Council of Administrators) and YFT (Yonkers Federation of Teachers).
