There's construction happening now in West Nyack as part of an $11 million revitalization project that is expected to bring major upgrades to the area.

Clarkstown officials say it should be complete early next year.

"I'm really excited because it's going to be a huge shot in the arm for West Nyack," said Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann. He showed News 12 renderings and plans on Wednesday. The project looks to improve traffic, add parking, build new sidewalks, address drainage and more.

News 12's Diane Caruso was told a portion of West Nyack Road near the park will be closed on or about Feb. 17 for work to fix drainage.

When that's complete, a different portion of the same road near the park will be closed for more work.

Both closures are expected to take about a month, and drivers should be aware of detours.

Some in the area are worried about the impacts it will have on traffic and local businesses.

Business owners shared off camera that they have concerns. One stressed the need for people to continue to choose local to help support them through it. Still, many are looking forward to seeing the final product.

"We ask you to be patient, and we're going to push the contractors as hard as we can, so they can get done as quickly as possible. So people can be the least inconvenienced," said Hoehmann.
