In December 2024, News 12 interviewed Angie Rivera and Daniel Heyliger, two Riverdale residents who were raising money for a 93-year-old Korean War veteran who died alone at home on Thanksgiving in 2024.

The trio was part of a larger group of strangers-turned-family who met at the local Dunkin’ Donuts.

On Wednesday, after weeks of fundraising, the group said goodbye to Herald Bowley at Williams Funeral Home in Kingsbridge.

His final resting place will be alongside his fellow veterans at Calverton National Cemetery in Eastern Long Island.
