A new state law will make it easier for New Yorkers to cancel their gym memberships.

Under the measure, processing and refunds for gym memberships must take place within 10 business days of a club receiving a notice of cancellation.

The law also allows people to cancel within three days of signing a contract without a penalty.

"You sometimes have to pay $50 dollars to cancel a membership, now you can just do it," explained Juan Jolly, of Rockville Centre.

Many gym owners say the new law will impact the industry. It's never helpful when there are more regulations. It won't hurt my business, but the new law isn't good for some clubs," added Dennison Silvio, of Sportset Health and Fitness in Rockville Centre.

The new law takes effect next month.
