Ulster County man sentenced for deadly hit-and-run accident

Ty Kobelt, 33, of Gardner, Ulster County, has been sentenced to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison for his role in a deadly hit-and-run accident that occurred in January.

The accident resulted in the death of 22-year-old Raymond Rattray, a SUNY New Paltz student, who was walking along Route 208 when he was struck.

Kobelt pleaded guilty to manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. Authorities reported that he had taken steps to conceal damage to his vehicle and had consumed cannabis shortly before driving. He was also on his cellphone when the accident occurred.
