Orangetown police: Male in 'crisis' threatened to harm himself and others taken to hospital

Orangetown police said a male who was in "crisis" and had threatened on social media Friday to harm himself and others was taken to the hospital for treatment and evaluation.
Detectives said officers responded to a welfare check at a home on Francis Avenue shortly after 10:30 a.m.
The incident resulted in an hours-long presence of a large police response in the neighborhood.
Orangetown police said they asked the Rockland County Behavioral Response Team, the Rockland County Rescue, Entry and Counter Terrorism Team, Rockland Paramedics Services and the Nyack Community Ambulance Corps to assisst with the situation.
Francis Avenue was temporarily closed to traffic for the safety of the public, detectives said.
Authorities were to able to successfully remove the male who was then taken to Nyack hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Orangetown police added that there were no injuries to anybody who was involved and there is no threat to the public.
The identity of the individual was not immediately clear as of Friday night.
