A former Dutchess County prison will be transformed into housing and a community space.

Conifer Realty, LLC was selected by Gov. Kathy Hochul's Office to re-imagine the former downstate correctional facility in Fishkill.

The plan is to construct a vibrant, mixed-use development with up to 1,300 units.

It will also feature a playground, a walking trail and common areas for residents and other public amenities.

The community will also be able to weigh in on the design.

The construction project will also create up to 200 construction jobs.
