In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, a group of students shared the Chinese tradition of the dragon and lion dance.

The Murray Hill Chinese School passes down the teachings to children as young as 4-years-old. Some students come week after week from hours away.

Brothers Aiden and Eric Kyi, along with other Chinese American students, practice traditions every Saturday afternoon at Watchung Hills Regional High School.

Eric, a high school sophomore, says he’s been practicing lion dance for around two years. The brothers have not only deepened their bond through this experience but built bridges beyond their family.

“Lion dance is a really deep part of our Chinese culture…Every time I do it, I feel thankful for the opportunity to engage in my culture,” said Aiden Kyi, a high school senior.
