The state's highest court has put an end to a five-month legal battle over last November's election for Harrison town supervisor.

Without comment, the Court of Appeals denied attempts by the two losing candidates to hear their appeals, effectively confirming incumbent Republican Richard Dionisio as the winner.

On election night, former Town Supervisor Ron Belmont, running as an independent, was initially leading, while Democrat Mark Jaffe finished third. However, a state Supreme Court judge ruled Belmont ineligible to hold office, a decision upheld by a state appellate court.

Jaffe sought a special election, but this too was denied in the lower courts, bringing the legal dispute to a close.
