Yonkers police shared video of a woman they rescued last week who was trapped under a dock on the Hudson River.

The rescue came after a retired member from the department spotted some belongings and a note that was left on the pier in the downtown waterfront area of Yonkers.

Officials from the department said the retired member was concerned that someone was trying to harm themselves so he called the department's dispatch.

After reviewing cameras in the AWARE Crime Control Center, they found that a woman had jumped into the water.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found that the woman was trapped under a dock in the area.

A spokesperson from the department said this prompted officers to put on their water rescue gear and get in the river.

They said they successfully brought her to a nearby dock, where she was then transferred to medical personnel and got treatment at an area hospital.

Sgt. David Barca told News 12 that the entire rescue once they arrived on scene only took them about 10 minutes.

"If we had to wait for an extended period of time for New York City or Westchester County to come in to provide the officers to do this, she could have died from the cold water exposure," Barca said.

Yonkers police are reminding the community that several resources are available to them if they are struggling with mental health.
