A Citizens Preparedness Corps training in Yonkers Saturday gave residents tools and resources to prepare for emergencies.
The event was part of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s recognition of September as National Preparedness Month, with trainings led by the New York National Guard.
Participants were advised on how to develop family emergency plans and stock up on supplies.
"During the hurricane Ida, there was a lot of flooding that took place. People don't like to be caught off guard. It’s really important that they know what to do ahead of time, so they know how to react in a responsible way and not to panic,” said NAACP Yonkers environmental and climate justice chair Mari Da Silva.
People at the event also received a free New York State disaster preparedness kit.
