Yonkers City Clerk’s Office tosses term limit petition, says 5,000 signatures were invalid

The Yonkers City Clerk's Office says a petition that would adopt a local law to establish a three-consecutive terms limit for elected positions in the city doesn’t comply with the requirements of the law.
They say the petition doesn't have the required number of valid signatures and nearly half of the 5,000 signatures are invalid.
The ruling also says the petition cannot be re-filed with the clerk's office until Sept. 10 - two months after its original filing date. The earliest the law could then be adopted would be 60 days later, which would be three days after Election Day.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano will attempt to win his fourth term when he faces off against Republican City Councilman Anthony Merante in November.
