The Yonkers City School District is under new interim leadership, with Luís Rodríguez stepping up to fill the role of the outgoing superintendent, Edwin Quezada.

Quezada, who retired earlier this month, had served the district for 25 years, briefly holding the interim superintendent position until his replacement was found.

Rodríguez, who has been with the district for nine years, was previously the assistant superintendent for Special Education.

Prior to his tenure in Yonkers, he worked for New York City public schools. Rodríguez characterizes himself as "a lifelong advocate of eliminating disparities in not only opportunity, but outcomes, for all students."

The search for a permanent superintendent is already underway. The district's board president stated that they have hired a superintendent search firm and plan to seek community input through surveys and community forums to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive selection process.
