A man facing charges for a 2019 crash that killed two teens in Rockland was a no-show Monday in court for his trial.

Authorities say Jason Castro and Aisha Radoncic were racing on Route 304 in October 2019 when Radoncic's 2017 Porsche veered off the road and landed near the train tracks below. Her passengers, 17-year-old Altin Nazaj, of Pearl River, and 15-year-old Saniha Cekic, of Brooklyn, died in the crash.

Radoncic's case was settled in Family Court.

Castro, who is facing second-degree manslaughter and reckless driving charges, didn’t appear in court for his bench trial with Judge Kevin Russo. If he is not in court on Wednesday morning, a bench warrant will be issued for his arrest.

"It's just frustrating that the defendant didn't even show up,” said Jeff Nezaj, Altin’s father. "Just do the right thing. You know what you did that day and show up for court and face your punishment like a man."

His mother, Syzana Nezaj, said Jeff was a “happy kid and a “very caring person.”

“It's hard. It's hard to wake up in the morning without him," she said.

Outside of the courthouse, emotions ran high when the parents of the teenage girl who was driving the car Altin was in, spoke with the Nezaj family.
