Port Jervis councilman pleads guilty to reduced charge that he stole money from school district

A Port Jervis city councilman pleaded guilty to a reduced charge that he stole more than $1,000 from the school district.

Regis Foster pleaded guilty to attempted petty larceny during an appearance in Middletown City Court last month, according to his attorney.

Foster was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge on the misdemeanor plea.

He was a teacher in the Port Jervis school district until he resigned last month.

He will remain on the City Council.Attorney Richard Portale says his client has served many years in the community in various organizations.

He says Foster owned up to his mistake and wants to put this behind him.
