There will be no housing deal between state lawmakers and the governor before the end of the legislative session in Albany.
Sen. Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie released a joint statement Thursday blaming Gov. Kathy Hochul for the deal falling apart.
The Senate and Assembly agreed on a deal that included rent protections, a housing access voucher program and good cause eviction laws, but said it was clear they "could not come to an agreement with the governor."
While this most likely ends any legislative action over housing for this session, Hochul said she may use an executive order to address the issue in the coming weeks.
A spokesperson for Hochul's office noted the Legislature did not agree to her housing compact in the budget and has not presented any new housing bills to her desk since.
