Road crews started a two-year traffic project on the busy Bronx River Parkway Monday.

The northbound right lane of the parkway from East 233rd Street in the Bronx to Oak Street in Mount Vernon will be affected. The county is disrupting traffic along the 1.5-mile stretch of roadway in order to build a new exit ramp that will direct traffic to Yonkers Avenue. The ramp will have two lanes to accommodate more traffic than the Oak Street exit, which will be eventually closed.

Officials are warning drivers to expect delays, especially during rush hour. While some commuters believe it's a lot of work for a relatively small change, others support the project.

"I guess it's good," says Brian Hawe, of Katonah. "It's got to be done sometime and if it's going to help eventually, I think it's worth it to get it over with now."
