Police say they have two suspects in custody in connection with the shooting of a released inmate in Mount Hope earlier Thursday.
Police say the 33-year-old victim had just been released from state prison, 15 minutes before the shooting. He had served 15 years for assault.
He was allegedly shot inside the car that came to pick him up, just after 10 a.m. near the Metro-North station in Otisville. Police say a third person in the car, hiding in the trunk or backseat, opened fire and shot the victim in the chest several times.
Area schools were locked out while police searched for the suspects. The lockouts were lifted at around 2:30 p.m.
The victim was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery. He has refused to tell police what prompted the shooting.
The two suspects were apprehended in New York City.
