Two Hudson Valley scientists are receiving some national recognition for their work.
Sean Solomon, of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, and chemist Edith Flanigen were part of a special ceremony at the White House Thursday that honored the nation's elite scientists.
Pres. Obama presented Solomon with a National Medial of Science and Flanigen the Nation Medal of Technology and Innovation.
Solomon is currently the director of Lamont-Doherty, the Rockland division of Columbia Universtiy.
Flanigen spent her career at Union Carbide, a chemical company in White Plains.
Obama praised the 19 scientists in attendance for their "spirit of restless energy."
