2 residents suffer possible smoke inhalation in Mount Vernon fire

One resident was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, officials said.

An early morning fire near the Mount Vernon East Metro-North station has been extinguished.

The fire was reported around 6:23 a.m. in a bedroom of an apartment building at 104 Elm St., Deputy Fire Chief James Lang said.

Damage was contained to the apartment where the fire started, with some smoke damage reported in the apartment above, Lang said.

Two residents were transported to Jacobi Medical Center with possible smoke inhalation, officials said.

Firefighters remained on scene working to fully extinguish remaining hot spots.
