Two Ramapo police officers were hospitalized, one of them with serious injuries, following a crash involving an allegedly drunken driver.
It happened at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Officials say 21-year-old Iliana Negron, of Suffern, barreled down a Ramapo road and crashed into a squad car near where four officers were out on foot.
The impact sent the car flying into two of the officers. The victims have been identified as officers Lance Weinstein and Raymond Smith.
Officials say Weinstein has since been released, but Smith remains hospitalized with internal bleeding.
The Ramapo police chief says it marks the second apparent drunken driving accident to hurt an officer this week.
Negron is now facing DWI and vehicular assault charges and is being held on $50,000 bail.
